Saved by the Bell nurse sans nurse outfit

Every Saved by the Bell episode contains several scenes so incredibly awkward that their viewing should be uniformly banned except as punishment for violent crime. Recently, I was reminded of one particularly awkward episode when I spotted the above actress, Nancy Valen, hosting an informercial for the hair straightening product, InStyler. You might remember Nancy Valen from other awkward moment-laden television shows, including Charles in Charge and Full House, but most importantly, the Saved by the Bell episode, “Nurse to Worse” (Season 2, Episode 16, aired Dec. 15, 1990).
In “Nurse to Worse”, Nancy Valen arrives at Bayside as Nurse Jennifer–the replacement for Nurse “Blind-as-a-bat” Butcher–just as Zack and Kelly have made plans for a steady relationship. Upon meeting Jennifer, Zack is unable to control his lust for the new nurse, and he dumps Kelly in order to pursue his new crush. When Nurse Jennifer becomes aware of Zack’s plan, she decides to frighten Zack away by pretending to fall in love with him and begging him to protect her from her violent-tempered, professional wrestler husband. Ah the wonders of reverse psychology! Only in those carefree early 1990′s on Saved by the Bell would it be acceptable for a 20-some woman to seduce a 15 year-old boy in a professional setting as a way of “teaching him a lesson”.

There are many awkward scenes in this episode including but not limited to: every scene involving Mario Lopez and this strange slow-motion version of Nurse Jennifer undoing her hair for Zack.
