Over winter break, Richard and I spent a few hours going through some of his family home videos that his dad had recently transfered to DVD. Though Richard, in general, is a person of little to interest to me, except for when I need a ride somewhere or when I’m bored during winter break, I happened to have a particular investment in these video archives. You see, Richard and I became good friends during 6th grade, though long-forgotten YMCA soccer pictures later revealed that we had once played on the same youth soccer team during the late great 1980s.
At the time, Richard’s family lived in Dobson, AZ, and for reasons that will never be clear, I lived in Tempe but still played in the City of Dobson YMCA league. Our team, not surprisingly named “The Soccers”, included other notable Corona Del Sol alumnus, Nika, who scored our team’s only goal the entire season. That’s right. One goal. We lost every game. And, when Richard and I finally found one of our games on DVD, the reason became entirely obvious: we both had zero atheletic ability and even less interest in kicking a ball for an hour in front of our parents. While parts of that soccer game will surface in time, I bring to you now the real treasure in our findings.
