What’s Incan thinkin’?

Here is a bizarre conversation I had with Brian the other day:

John: My friend Joy will be moving to Los Angeles this summer when she starts the Teach America program.
Brian: Oh that’s cool.
John: Yeah, she’s going to live in West LA and will teach in a lower income area.
Brian: Wow, that’s one hell of a commute!
John: No, it’s only about 10 miles.
Brian: Wait, how did she even find a job in a Lower Incan area?
John: No, no, no. Not lower “Incan”. Lower “income”!
Brian: Welp, I was gonna say!

I wanted to say a brief word about Darcy Grant, my dear friend from UCSB, who has just finished her first year of medical school at Georgetown University. Darcy and I initially connected through our work with Habitat for Humanity and continued to develop a strong friendship throughout our undergraduate years. In the theme of the above conversation, here is a picture from Darcy’s Incan New Years Party during our senior year at UCSB. I’ll save you some time now by suggesting you not ask what my face is doing , why we are wearing aluminum foil, or why Darcy is holding a “showcane”.
